Another FARC hostage released

world news

Rebels in Colombia say they have freed a former member of parliament kidnapped in 2002, in what is the third hostage release this week. A Red Cross team was despatched to pick up Sigifredo Lopez. He is the last politican believed to be held by the FARC. His freedom may also shed light on the fate of eleven other people seized with him, and who are thought to have died two years ago in a gun battle between two rival rebel gangs. The FARC released four soldiers and a former governor this week, what is seen as strengthening their negotiating position in possible peace talks.
