Colombia’s FARC rebels have freed, Alan Jara, a former politician held hostage for more than seven years.

It is the second release this week by Latin America’s longest-running insurgency. FARC guerrillas freed a solider and three police officers on Sunday to a Red Cross delegation in a mission that was complicated by charges of military harassment and a row between the government and a commission that brokered the handover. They were the first captives to be unilaterally released by the rebels of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) in almost a year.More about:
