At least 111 people have been confirmed dead from an oil spill blaze in central Kenya.

The fire broke out when a lorry crashed, spilling petrol that burst into flames. One woman said: ‘‘I have never seen people burnt like this. We are all very shocked. I don’t even know what to say. We are shocked.’‘ The crash took place near the central Rift Valley town of Molo. Victims were caught in the fire after gathering round the vehicle in the hope of free fuel. While it is still not clear how the fire began, a dropped cigarette could be one cause. There are also suspicions that someone angered at being blocked by police may have started the blaze deliberately.More about: ,
