EU ready to ban Iranian oil imports 
Iran nuclear standoff galvanised Iran says it is ready to contribute to a dialogue with the EU on energy cooperation. EU-Iran ties are currently frozen over Tehran’s nuclear program, but Deputy Foreign Minister Mehdi Safari has been visiting the EU parliament, notably its Committee on Industry, Research and Energy.
He said: “We talked about energy. They raised the subject and I said Iran is ready to have a cooperation with the European Union. Our Minister of Oil and Energy announced it so many times that Iran is available to contribute to such a project.” This touches on the planned Nabucco gas pipeline and reducing Europe’s dependence on Russian gas. Nabucco would bypass Ukraine and Russia and could carry either gas from the Caspian region through Turkey to Europe or from elsewhere, including Iran, which has the world’s third largest proven natural gas reserves.More about: EU-Iran, European Union, IranCopyright © 2012 euronews
