Lebanon condemns rocket attack against Israel

Lebanon has condemned a rocket attack from its territory into northern Israel on Wednesday morning.

It is the second assault launched from Lebanon into Israel since it started its offensive against Gaza nearly three weeks ago.

Israel responded with artillery fire. No severe injuries were reported on either side.

No one has claimed responsibility for this attack or the previous one.

Lebanon’s Hezbollah, which fought a month-long war with Israel in 2006, has not made any comment.

Israel blames smaller armed Palestinian factions based in Lebanon.

Condemning the attack, Lebanon’s Information Minister said it harmed his country’s national interest, adding that Lebanon had no intention of being dragged into the conflict. “The attack offers Israel an excuse to harm Lebanon’s national interest,” said Tarek Mitri.

Another three rockets aimed at Israel were defused by UN soldiers in Lebanon on Wednesday. The commander of the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon has urged both sides to exercise restraint.
