Anish Kapoor gargantuan work invades Grand Palais An artwork portraying stereotypes of each EU country has been hung in the atrium of the Council building in Brussels.
The current Czech presidency, in somewhat puckish style, invited an artist from each member state to render something he thought typical, with the idea of breaking down prejudicial barriers. It is customary for each EU presidency to place an artwork in the atrium. In it, Italy is one big football pitch, France is on strike, Spain is entirely covered in concrete, Denmark is all lego and Romania is a big Dracula castle. Portugal has its ex-colonies in the form of raw meat. The Polish piece has a bunch of Catholic priests heaving at a gay pride flag. Germany is autobahn, autobahn, autobahn.
