Obama breaks silence over Gaza conflict

Breaking his silence over events in the Middle East, US President-elect Barack Obama has expressed deep concern about the civilian deaths in Gaza and Israel and has vowed to push for peace once he takes power.

Speaking to reporters in Washington, Obama said he would have more to say after his inauguration on January 20.

Obama has been criticised for his silence over Gaza, a top foreign policy challenge that will greet him when he enters the White House. He added that outgoing President George W. Bush would speak for the American people on foreign policy issues until then.
