French President Nicolas Sarkozy has met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah and called for an immediate ceasefire in order to bring an end to suffering of the population in the Gaza Strip. The French President said: “The urgency today is to bring about a ceasefire and we in Europe want an end to the fighting as soon as possible, we all know time is working against peace. Earlier an EU delegation met with Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, where she reiterated Israel’s right to defend itself against attacks from Hamas.
