US regulators reportedly looking into the company run by Bernard Madoff at least eight times in 16 years. According to the Wall Street Journal, the Securities and Exchange Commission and other regulators were responding to suspicions raised by a New York hedge fund which described Bernard Madoff’s business practices as “highly unusual,” but the regulators never came close to uncovering the alleged scam that investigators now believe began in the 1970s.
