An EU foreign policy team is in the Middle East on a mission to seek a ceasefire in the Israeli-Hamas conflict. The delegation led by Karel Schwarzenberg the Czech Foreign Minister, whose country holds the EU rotating presidency, met with Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni.
Livni reiterated the Israeli line: “I know that we all share the same understanding on what Hamas means. Israel is part of international community and all of us need to understand that the clear demand coming from the international community is to stop terror and violence. We have changed the equation, now we have some military objectives within the Gaza Strip and this is a long battle against terror.”
Earlier the delegation were in Egypt for talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, whose country borders the Gaza Strip. Meetings with the Palestinian Authority and Jordan are also on the agenda.
