Slovakia adopts the Euro

Slovakia has become the 16th country to join the Eurozone.

From today, it has exchanged Slovak crowns for the central European currency. Lots of Slovakia’s shops and businesses have been accepting euros for some time. Slovakia opted for a “big bang” change over with both currencies being accepted in tandem for only two weeks. The government is hoping the rapid switch will mitigate the effects of the global credit crisis. For the moment Slovakia has one of the best performing economies in the EU, but its people are among the poorest.More about: ,
