Despite mounting pressure on Israel and Hamas, French proposals for a 48-hour truce appear to have been rejected.

The Israeli cabinet met this morning to discuss the plan but officials signalled that, while not ruling it out completely, it was unlikely to be accepted. Analysts say further Hamas rocket attacks overnight would make it difficult for the the Israeli cabinet to accept a truce. Palestinian officials say 385 people have been killed by Israel’s recent airstrikes. Four Israelis have died in rocket attacks. France has proposed the truce to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza. But Israel says there is no guarantee the rocket attacks would stop.More about:
