Arab nations condemn Gaza offensive

Individually, Arab countries unanimously condemned the Israeli attacks on Gaza, and called for an immediate end to the violence. But the Arab League has postponed until Wednesday an emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers to hammer out a common response. In Cairo, the Arab League’s Secretary-General said: “We obviously, and without a doubt condemn this act in the strongest terms. But condemnation is not enough.”

Israel’s main ally, America, did not call for an end to the airstrikes but urged military leaders to avoid civilian casualties. A White House spokesman blamed Hamas. Gordon Johndroe said: “Hamas must stop launching rockets into Israel. The United States holds Hamas responsible for breaking the ceasefire. The ceasefire should be restored immediately. The EU’s head of foreign policy Javier Solana said Israel is inflicting an unacceptable toll on Palestinian civilians. Middle East envoy Tony Blair said Gaza must be returned to the rule of the Palestinian authority.More about:
