Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni has defended her country’s air strikes on Gaza. “Only last week, Israel was attacked from the Gaza Strip and in a day about 80 missiles and mortars were fired against Israel’s civilans,” said Livni. “Enough is enough. The international community needs to understand that this is the translation of the right of Israel to defend itself, that there is not another alternative and we are doing what we need to do in order to defend our citizens.” Palestinian militants immediately responded to the attack by launching rocket attacks of their own. The reprisals have so far claimed one life, in the southern Israeli town of Netivot.
