Coup grip tightens on Guinea government

Member’s of Guinea’s government, led by the prime minister, have turned themselves in at a military camp.

This came after the junta that seized power called on all members of the previous administration to come out of hiding within 24 hours.

The young army captain in charge, Moussa Dadis Camara, appears to have broad popular support, two days after the death by illness of President Lansana Conte.

In the West African country’s capital, Conakry, the self-proclaimed National Council for Democracy and Development appeared unopposed.

Elections have been promised in two years time.

Meanwhile, the UN, African Union, European Union and United States have all condemned the latest political breakdown in Africa.
