A six-month-old baby boy, sold on the internet at birth by his Belgian parents to a Dutch couple, has been returned to Belgian foster care.
The child protection authorities in the Netherlands have deemed the transaction an ‘illegal adoption’. A decision on the baby’s future will be made in the next few months.
It will be up to the Belgian authorities to rule.
The natural parents of baby Jaden already had another child, and were in financial difficulty, when they sold him for between five and ten thousand euros to a childless couple. The buyers registered the baby as their own.
