With the IMF in their sights, EU leaders and the president of Brazil are preparing to target an organisation they believe is uncontrolled and unsupervised.

They have agreed to forge a common position ahead of the next G20 summit. Brazil is keen to be a world leader. It certainly leads the way in environmental issues. The EU Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said Brazil’s ambitious plan to fight deforestation, by promoting the sustainable development and protection of the Amazon rain forest, would certainly make it a global leader in the fight against climate change. rench President Nicolas Sarkozy is preparing to sign an agreement with President Luiz Ignacio Lula da Silva on that very initiative, as well as an arms deal transferring French submarine and helicopter technology to Brazil. Sarkozy backs Brazil’s claim to a permanent seat on the UN Security council and has said the key South American country has a vital role to play in global decision making during this financial crisis.More about: , ,
