No turning back the clock – that’s the message from the UN after it adopted a resolution stressing the irreversibility of an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal. The resolution is the first by the Security Council on the conflict since November 2003. 14 members approved the motion, with only Libya abstaining. “The responsibility for a resolution of the Middle East conflict does not fall to Israel and the Palestinians, though they must lead the process. It falls to every state in the region, for the only sustainable peace must be a 23 state solution, not just a two state solution,” said British Foreign Secretary David Miliband. Both Israel and the Palestinian’s have come in for heavy criticism recently. Israel for its blockade of Gaza and settlement activities and the Palestinians for their failure to stop indiscriminate attacks. The vote seeks to continue the Annapolis process, which was launched by the Bush Administration last year.
