Thousands of German credit card details stolen

world news

More than 10,000 bank customers in Germany have had their credit card details stolen.

The information was apparently taken from the Landesbank Berlin and anonymously sent to the newspaper Frankfurter Rundschau.

A spokesman for Landesbank Berlin said there were no PIN numbers in the package:

“We are holding the data while the police investigates. The enquiries are ongoing so we can’t give any more information. However, the stolen package does not include secret pin numbers or other data that would allow the illegal use of credit cards.”

The package contained customers’ names, addresses, credit card and bank account numbers and recent transactions.

Landesbank customers have been advised to check their accounts for inconsistencies.
