The man suspected of planning the Mumbai terrorist attacks two weeks ago is said to have been arrested in Pakistan.

Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi was seized in a raid on a camp used by Lashkar e-Taiba, the group accused of having trained the gunmen who attacked the Taj Mahal Palace and Oberoi hotels in Mumbai.

Jamaat-ud-Dawa, a Pakistan Kashmir-based charity considered to be Lashkar’s political arm said Lavki and 14 others had been arrested.

India believes the Mumbai terrorists came from Pakistan – the sole survivor is said to have admitted he was trained in Pakistan, and named Lakhvi as the ring-leader.

Islamabad has refused to hand over a number of suspects identified by India, saying if evidence of their guilt exists, they will be tried in Pakistan.

The Mumbai attacks killed some 180 people, heightening tensions between India and Pakistan, which are long-term rivals and nuclear powers.
