‘Unwise’ and ‘hurtful’ are just two of the words Chinese state TV has used to describe a meeting between French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Tibet’s spiritual leader the Dalai Lama.
In a damning rebuke, the broadcast claimed Sarkozy’s actions undermined bilateral ties between France and China.
The statement also called the French leader’s decision to meet the Dalai Lama ‘‘an opportunistic, rash and short-sighted approach to handling the Tibet issue.’‘
