Jobless figures rise in Spain

Unemployment in Spain, the highest in the EU, continues to grow after 171,243 fresh claimants signed on in November – that is an increase of six percent. November’s rise is the eighth month in a row that the number of people out of work has gone up. Consumer confidence has been hit hard in Spain with the latest job cuts centred on the service secter. The total number of unemployed is now 2.99 million, an 11-year high. Spain is not only reeling from the credit crunch, but has seen its property market implode.
