Who was behind the three day killing spree that turned Mumbai into a war zone? The investigation has begun in earnest with India’s chief suspects already in the frame – its nuclear rival Pakistan and a militant group based there.

Islamabad denies any involvement in the attacks that claimed 183 lives, according to the latest official figures. And it has pledged its cooperation in the fight against terror.

But, amid media reports of the only captured suspect’s testimony, the finger of blame is being pointed at the Lashkar-e-Taiba group, founded by cleric Hafiz Mohammed Saeed.

The man in custody has reportedly said the gunmen who carried out the Mumbai murders were trained by the group, thought to be based in Pakistani-controlled Kashmir.
