The political fallout from the Mumbai massacres is now being felt in India. For while the rampage is over in the Taj Mahal hotel, the streets outside have become a pressure cooker of public anger directed at the government.

As the buck stops with Home Minister Shivraj Patil, he has handed in his resignation. Later, India’s National Security Adviser M.K. Narayanan quit and it is predicted that other heads could roll.
For now, the government has moved to stop a repeat of the slaughter. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said today he would increase the size and strength of India’s anti-terrorist forces.
