Peace talks go on in the Democratic Republic of Congo with a glimmer of hope.

The former Nigerian president, Olusegun Obasanjo, now a UN special envoy, has met President Joseph Kabila and will meet the Tutsi rebel chief General Laurent Nkunda too.

Obasanjo said the two sides seem to agree a military solution in the country is pointless.

Thousands of people are still fleeing the fighting.
A ceasefire has stopped the battles with government troops, for now, but the rebels are still launching attacks on the Congolese and Rwandan militia allies of the government.

Thousands of refugees have gone east into Uganda. Ten thousand have arrived in camps across the border in the past few days, hungry and desperate.

They talk of family members killed and homes ransacked. Now they must eke out an existence in squalid, packed, camps where food is scarce, despite the best efforts of the humanitarian agencies.
