Tens of thousands of people have marched in Kigali, the Rwandan capital, to protest against the extradition to France by Germany of an aide to President Paul Kagame.
Other cities saw large crowds denounce both Germany and France, and the Kigali demonstration ended outside the German embassy and the German world service radio station.
French anti-terrorist judges allege Rose Kabuye played a key role in the downing of Rwandan President Juvenal Habyarimana’s plane in 1994, killing him and the all-French crew.
Current President Paul Kagame says Kabuye is innocent, and has long accused France of complicity in the subsequent horror to engulf his country.
The plane attack was the signal for the start of the Hutu’s genocide of Rwanda’s Tutsi and moderate Hutus, in which some 800,000 men women and children were butchered.
Kabuye was arrested at Frankfurt airport on November 9, and Rwanda complained to the UN that the arrest violated international law.
