The number of people killed in the collapse of a school in Haiti’s capital has risen to more than 80. There is a race against the clock for rescuers trying to reach any more survivors buried under the rubble of the three-storey building. Dozens of children have been taken to hospital in a serious condition. One mother said: “I can no longer live. I’ve lost four children.”
Officials at the scene say they suspect the building was poorly rebuilt after it partially collapsed eight years ago. The police say the minister who runs the church-operated school is being sought, and he could face criminal charges.
