Latvians are laughing about the EU. They said yes to joining the bloc five years ago. Now they are having a humorous retrospective. Nine Latvian cartoonists have captured the national mood with a light touch. One said the new member state is treated with disdain by the older EU members.
At the book launch in Riga, MP Boriss Cilevics said: “If people keep their sense of humour, then the health of the country is doing well. It takes skill to laugh at pretty serious issues. It helps.”
Humour is not covered in any EU directive, although these pictures suggest otherwise.
