Police arrest suspected ETA cell

world news

A suspected four member cell of the armed Basque terrorist group ETA has been arrested.

Police swooped in the early hours of the morning in the Spanish cities of Pamplona and Valencia. But Spain’s interior ministry has yet to confirm the operation.

Police, who suspect the four of belonging to a recently set up commando group, searched several homes for weapons and explosives

Recognised as a terror group in the EU and US, ETA is deemed responsible for more than 800 deaths in its 40-year campaign of violence for a separate Basque state.

Since June last year the group has been responsible for five deaths after breaking a self-declared ceasefire.
