Icelanders have taken to the streets of the capital Reykjvik to call for the resignation of the prime minister and head of the central bank for their role in the financial crisis that has crippled the economy. Protestors chanted for early elections and demanded the North Atlantic Island take steps to join the EU.
Iceland has become the first national victim of the financial turbulence, international trade in the krona has stopped, a dispute with Britain has broken out over deposits held in Icelandic accounts and the country has appealed to the International Monetary Fund for a 1.5 billion euro aid package.
