Mechanics may face trial over Spanair crash

world news

The judge investigating the Spanair crash which killed 154 people in August is considering charging the mechanics who worked on the plane, according to Spanish judicial sources. The Spanair jet took off once but returned to the airport so ground staff could take a look at it. It crashed after a second take-off.

Two Spanair mechanics and its head of maintenance could face trial for causing death by negligence. They will apparently be questioned on November 3. It is also reported that the judge is to ask an independent panel of experts to investigate the crash in parallel with the government enquiry. A preliminary report found that the plane’s flaps had not been deployed for take-off.
