Aid starts to arrive in quake hit Chechnya

Emergency aid is arriving in Chechnya after yesterdays earthquake which killed at least 13 people and left more than a hundred injured.

With thousands without electricity and widespread damage to infrastructure authorities are attempting to restore normality to the region.

The 40 second tremor, measuring around six on the Richter scale was centred 40 Kilometres East of the Chechen capital Grozny.

Such was the force of the quake it was felt as far away as Armenia and Georgia.

And, despite the devastation caused in the Russian Republic, Chechens’ went to the polls as the country’s parliamentary elections continue as planned.
