“Troopergate” inquiry blames Palin

The inquiry in Alaska that the Republicans tried to bury before the presidential election has published its findings in the Sarah Palin ethics case, and it makes for grim reading for the vice-presidential candidate and presidential hopeful John McCain.

The inquiry has found that Palin did abuse her powers for personal interest. The McCain campaign team has been swift to claim the inquiry shows she acted within “proper and lawful authority” when sacking the state’s safety commissioner. He had refused to fire a state trooper engaged in a bitter divorce and child custody case with Palin’s younger sister.

The inquiry did say other factors were involved, but that his refusal to fire Palin’s brother-in-law was a contributory factor.
