US president George Bush says the G7 will do what it takes to resolve the global financial crisis. Meeting in Washington, leaders vowed to use all the tools at their disposal. But uncertainty remains over whether it will be enough to stem the panic hitting world markets.

Bush said: “It is important for our citizens to have understood, that which affects Wall Street affects Main Street as well. As our nations carry out this plan, we must make sure the actions of one country do not contradict or undermine the actions of another. In an interconnected world, no nation will gain by driving down the fortunes of another. We’re in this together, we’ll come through it together.’‘

With a series of crisis meetings taking place, the weekend is offering G7 leaders crucial breathing space as they attempt to get the global economy going again.
