121 people have been arrested in Spain’s biggest-ever strike against child pornography. More than 800 police officers, working with agents in Brazil, raided more than 200 homes across Spain. They smashed an international file-sharing network, some of whose images are said to be of an “extreme” nature.

“During this operation, we found thousands of pictures of very small children being abused and raped and other very rough material,” said Manuel Vazquez, from Spain’s technology police force.

Those arrested include airline pilots and taxi drivers. They range in age from pensioners to teenagers. In at least two cases, the suspects are accused of violently abusing members of their own family. Another 96 people are under investigation for storing and distributing paedophile material on the internet.
