Germany’s jobless rate dipped to a 16-year-low in September. Adjusted for seasonal swings, unemployment fell by 29,000 from August, according to the latest figures from the Federal Labour Office. Economists had forecast a decline of 15,000.
The drop took the jobless rate to 7.6% of the working population, that is the lowest rate since June 1992. It offers some relief for the German economy which is threatened by weaker demand for export goods from the US and other trading partners.
