Sudanese authorities say they have pinpointed the exact location where eleven foreign tourists and eight Egyptian guides are being held.

The five Germans, five Italians and one Romanian were seized by bandits in Egypt on Friday and officials say they are now in a remote no-man’s land between Egypt, Sudan and Libya.

The tourists were being taken on a desert safari in the Gilf al-Kebir area by the eight Egyptian guides. A spokesperson for German travel agencies stressed that the trip was the responsibility of the local Egyptian operators and not a German company.

Sudan’s foreign ministry said no rescue operation would be launched that might put the hostages’ lives in danger. German authorities are leading negotiations with the kidnappers, who have demanded a ransom of six million euros.
