Brown launches his political fightback

world news

The embattled British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has launched what he hopes will be his comeback, as the Labour Party met in Manchester for its annual conference. Battered in the polls and bruised by in-party fighting, Brown is fighting for his political life.

His keynote conference speech is due on Tuesday, but the Prime Minister used a question-and-answer session to undeline his credentials to steer Britain through stormy economic waters. He will have relished the applause, but with Labour’s ratings at rock bottom, he knows his message must reach a wider audience than just the conference hall.
