The US President has called for calm in the wake of the Lehman Brothers bank collapse. He said there would be problems in the short term but that the markets would be resilient and flexible in the long term: “I appreciate the work the Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve, and the Securities Exchange Commission and major financial institutions here and around the world are doing to promote stability in the financial systems,” he said.
