Alitalia’s unions are holding talks with the Rome government on job losses from its rescue plan.

The airline sought bankruptcy protection on Friday as it moved towards reorganisation as a smaller, debt-free company .

The Labour Minister has said that there could be less that 5,000 job losses rather than the previously suggested 6,000 to 7,000.

A group of 16 Italian investors is expected to confirm its interest to the administrator this week in some of Alitalia’s assets.
