Obama’s oratory goes down a storm

A rapturous, flag waving crowd of more than 80,000 filled the Denver football stadium for Barack Obama’s speech at the end of the Democrat’s Convention. They cheered him and afterwards compared him to previous great American leaders and orators.

One man who saw the speech said: “He hit the issues that needed to be hit. I mean look at America right now, we are in disrepair, you know? We need somebody to come in with a vision, to lift people up and move them forward in the same vision as the Kennedys and Dr Martin Luther King, we need to move forward.”

A woman in the stadium also endorsed Obama: “I do know that he can make a change, and that’s what we need. We all need a change. We’re all here together, let’s make the best of it, let’s do what’s best for everybody so that we can all hope and live and pass all this down to our future generations.”

Obama’s challenge is to maintain the momentum gained from the convention as he hits the campaign trail. He did win over the party faithful – including many of Hillary Clinton’s die-hard supporters – but now has to persuade the broader electorate to vote for him.

With 67 days to go before the election, he and running mate Joe Biden have started the fight with visits to key states, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan.
