Algeria suicide bomb kills 43 people

A suicide bombing in Algeria has killed 43 people and wounded 38 others.

The interior ministry said the attacker was targetting a paramilitary police training facility in the town of Issers, 50 kilometres east of the capital Algiers.

Witnesses say a man rammed his car into a group of young men who were queuing to get into the school to take entrance exams. The car then exploded.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

In recent months Algeria has suffered numerous attacks by islamic extremists.

In August a suicide bomber killed eight people at a seaside resort.

In December twin bombs in Algiers, one of which struck UN offices, claimed 37 lives.

A group going by the name of al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb claimed responsibility for those attacks.
