The 61st Locarno film festival has awarded Mexican director Enrique Rivero the Golden leopard for “Parque Via”, based on a true-life story.
It fought off the rival claims of 17 other films in competition for the top prize, and the organisers watched two thousand movies in all to make their festival choice.
Best actress went to Illaria Occhini for her work in “Mar Nero”.
Best actor went to Turkey’s Tayanc Ayaydin in Ben Hopkins’ “ The market”.
The public’s choice of best movie? “Son of Rambo” by Garth Jennings, the tale of two children’s remake of the Sly Stone classic.
