Serbia thaws frozen diplomatic links

world news

| |

The Serb government has given a clear indication it is ready to close the chapter on the Karadzic era.

It has announced it is reinstating its ambassadors in European Union nations.

Belgrade had cut diplomatic ties with countries that recognised Kosovo’s self-declared independence in February.

The decision is being interpreted as a second goodwill gesture in a week, following Karadzic’s arrest.

So far just over 40 nations, including 20 EU members and the United States have recognised Kosovo’s independence.

The new government in Pristina has not, however, been accepted by many others including Russia, China and India.

And even within the EU, members such as Spain, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus and Romania are unhappy with the situation.
