Afghanistan believes foreign agents may have coordinated the suicide bombing at the Indian embassy in Kabul that killed at least 41 people.

The interior ministry said the attack was carried out in “consultation with an active intelligence service in the region,” a statement that analysts took as a reference to Pakistan.

The bomber rammed his car into the embassy just as two diplomatic vehicles were entering. A number of diplomatic staff were killed but most of the victims were local people at a nearby market.

Afghanistan has accused Pakistani agents of being behind a number of attacks in recent weeks and has threatened to strike at militants across the border if Pakistan does not take action.

Some Afghan analysts believe Pakistan is concerned about growing relations between Afghanistan and India, its longtime regional enemy.

But Islamabad denies backing the Taleban and has strongly condemned this latest bomb attack.
