Video shows dramatic Colombian hostage rescue

world news

Video has emerged of the daring Colombian commando raid, which finally brought to an end the six year hostage ordeal of Ingrid Betancourt earlier in the week. Colombian military intelligence agents and police officers had infiltrated the marxist FARC guerilla group who had held her since 2002.

The agents persuaded the guerilla leadership that they should take Betancourt and fourteen other hostages to a new location in the jungle. Once on board the helicopter, the two FARC members accompanying them were overpowered, and the captives realised they were free.

Ingrid Betancourt called it an “extraordinary, perfect, flawless operation,” during which not a shot was fired. The video clearly shows the relief and surprise on the faces of those were freed.
