Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is coming under pressure to order a military response after Palestinian militants fired a makeshift rocket into southern Israel. The Israeli foreign minister Tzipi Livni interrupted talks with her Norwegian counterpart to urge military action: “This is another violation of the ceasefire. There was another violation two days ago. I really don’t care who used this opportunity to target Israel because I believe that when it comes Israel should react militarily, because they need to understand that we cannot live with this kind of violation.”

The latest strike followed salvoes earlier in the week putting further strain on an eight-day-old truce. The rockets prompted Israel to keep its border crossings with Gaza closed.

The Fatah linked al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade claimed the attack. Meanwhile Hamas said it would take necessary measures against other factions to ensure the ceasefire held.
