US President George Bush is at the final EU-US summit of his mandate. The gathering is taking place in Slovenia, which currently holds the EU’s rotating presidency.

It is unclear how much the summit can achieve, given Bush’s often antagonistic relations with many European leaders during his time in office – and the fact that that time is almost up with most people looking past him to the next resident of the White House.

Talks are expected to focus on drawing up a joint statement on the possibility of imposing more sanctions on Iran over its nuclear programme.
