Spain bears witness to oil price worries

world news

| |

Fishing boats sitting idle in Spanish ports. That is the reality of what the G8 politicians in Japan are worrying about.

Across the country 2500 commercial boats have been docked by their operators. They say the cost of the fuel to run them is out of reach given the amount they are can make. So instead of fishing, they’re demonstrating.

So too are 50,000 independent lorry owners who can’t make ends meet either as the cost of diesel hits highs never seen before.

Both groups say the only answer is for the government to subsidise the fuel they need. But that’s the vicious circle world leaders don’t want to entertain.
