The oldest vertebrate mother

| |

Australian scientists have unveiled a 375 million year-old fossilised fish which is the oldest vertebrate mother ever to be discovered. According to scientists, it sets a new date for the oldest known example of a creature giving birth to live young. Scientists say the discovery of an embryo inside the mother rewrites the evolution history of vertebrates. The fossil is currently on display in the foyer of Melbourne Museum.
